Underwriting a business, not just a borrower — digitised end to end
Nanostuffs built SMFG India Credit a Business Installment Loan origination platform on Salesforce Platform and Experience Cloud — digitising MSME and business lending across five subtypes, from multi-channel lead capture through cash-flow-based underwriting to disbursement, with 22+ external integrations doing the data work that used to be manual.
A business loan is not a salaried personal loan with a bigger number. Deciding it means reading GST returns, financial statements, bank-statement cash flows and company filings — for proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs and companies alike. The hard part was turning all of that into one digital credit decision.

Solution
A Salesforce + Experience Cloud origination platform with 22+ integrations feeding cash-flow-based, policy-driven credit decisions
Result
Faster, more consistent decisions across five business-loan subtypes
A business is harder to underwrite than a person
SMFG India Credit lends to Indian businesses — micro, small and medium enterprises across a range of structures and needs: term loans, working capital and overdraft, GST-turnover-based loans, invoice and bill discounting, and supply-chain finance. Each of those is a different product, and each borrower is a different kind of entity — a proprietor, a partnership, an LLP, a private company.
Assessing a business for credit is fundamentally harder than assessing a salaried individual. There is no single salary figure; creditworthiness lives in GST returns, income-tax filings, audited financials, bank-statement cash flows, and company filings — and it has to be spread and analysed, not just read. Done manually, each file meant pulling documents from multiple sources, keying data in, and applying policy by hand, with the inconsistency and slowness that implies.
SMFG needed this digitised across all five subtypes, for every entity type, on one platform — without losing the underwriting rigour that business lending demands.

Why Salesforce Platform + Experience Cloud
Business-loan origination needs a configurable, stage-based workflow, deep third-party integration, and strict governance — exactly the strengths of the Salesforce Platform. Experience Cloud adds the portals: applicants, DSAs and partners initiate and track applications; internal credit, verification and operations teams work the same records through their stages.
Building this on Salesforce rather than a bespoke stack meant SMFG got the workflow engine, the audit trail, the maker-checker governance and the role-based access as platform capabilities — so Nanostuffs could put the engineering into the lending logic and the integrations, which is where business-loan origination is actually hard.
What Salesforce + Experience Cloud handles natively
- A configurable, stage-based origination workflow from lead to disbursement
- Experience Cloud portals for applicants, DSAs/partners and internal teams
- Maker-checker controls, deviation matrices and a full audit trail
- One record model connecting application, applicant, collateral and decision data
Where custom engineering was needed
The custom engineering was the underwriting brain and the integration fabric: financial spreading for individuals and non-individuals, GST-turnover and DSCR/FOIR-based eligibility, a configurable credit policy/BRE per scheme, CGTMSE credit-guarantee handling, and orchestrating 22+ external services into a single, coherent flow.

Turning GST, bank and financial data into one cash-flow credit decision
The genuinely hard problem in business lending isn't collecting documents — it's turning heterogeneous business data into a single, defensible credit decision, across five subtypes and every entity type. A proprietor's creditworthiness reads differently from an LLP's; a working-capital line is assessed differently from a term loan; GST-turnover lending, invoice discounting and supply-chain finance each have their own logic. All of it has to run on one platform without collapsing into a lowest-common-denominator form.
Underneath sits the integration problem. A real decision needs GST returns, ITR, audited financials, bank-statement analysis, bureau data (individual and commercial), company filings, and KYB/KYC — each from a different external provider, each with its own contract and failure modes. Twenty-two-plus integrations have to feed the underwriting cleanly, because a credit decision built on a half-loaded data set is worse than no decision at all.
The fix was not a bigger application form — it was a configurable underwriting engine fed by orchestrated integrations, so each subtype and entity type gets the right data and the right policy, automatically.
Nanostuffs built the financial-spreading and cash-flow-scoring logic, a credit policy/business-rules engine configurable per scheme, and the orchestration that pulls GST, bank, bureau, MCA and KYB data into the decision — with deduplication, group-exposure and sanctions screening built in. The result is one platform that underwrites five business-loan subtypes on real cash-flow evidence, consistently, with the governance a regulated NBFC requires.
Before
- Business creditworthiness assessed manually from GST, financials, bank statements and filings
- Each subtype and entity type handled inconsistently, file by file
- Bureau, bank, KYC and company data pulled and keyed in by hand
- Slow, effort-heavy decisions with limited auditability
After
- One platform underwriting five subtypes on real cash-flow evidence
- GST, ITR, bank, bureau, MCA and KYB data pulled automatically via 22+ integrations
- Configurable credit policy/BRE per scheme, with deviation and committee governance
- Faster, more consistent, fully auditable decisions across entity types
